Only late in the evening did everything become clear. When my neighbor came into the kitchen to borrow a tool, he suddenly frowned and said:
— It smells like gas in here. Very strongly.
We called the emergency service. It turned out there was a carbon monoxide leak caused by damaged pipes behind the stove. The gas had been slowly building up, and the symptoms I had mistaken for fatigue were actually poisoning.
I still think about what could have happened if it hadn’t been for my cat. She had sensed it from the start. Her meowing, hissing, and attempts to keep me in the kitchen were desperate efforts to warn me.
We went straight to the hospital, got checked, and thankfully there were no serious consequences. But now, whenever my cat acts “strange,” I pay very close attention. That day, she saved my life.
