Heartbroken Mother Speaks Out 2 Years after Losing Her 12-Week-Old Son

Rachel Surtees will never forget the day her life changed forever. Her 12-week-old son, Hudson, passed away while staying at his father’s home. Two years later, Rachel is speaking out about her grief, her healing, and her mission to honor Hudson’s memory.

Rachel, a respiratory nurse from Newcastle, had met Hudson’s father, Carl, in 2022. Their relationship wasn’t serious, but she wanted Hudson to know both parents. Tragically, in April 2023, Hudson passed away, and soon after, Carl also died.

Despite the heartbreak, Rachel found strength in her two older sons, supportive family, and community. She raised funds for a seaside memorial bench and visits often to reflect on Hudson’s short but joyful life.In 2024, Rachel welcomed a daughter, Georgie, with her new partner. She calls her “a gift of hope in the darkest time,” while emphasizing that no one could ever replace Hudson.

Rachel now shares her journey publicly to raise awareness, speaking about grief and honoring her son each year. “My world shattered, but his spirit lives on in me and my children,” she says. Her story is a reminder that even in loss, love and resilience can create a legacy of hope.
