A couple in Austin, Texas just beat the Guinness World record by being the oldest married couple for 80 years now on 15th of December!

Many strive to attain successful marriage and the married couple who beat us all have the perfect, yet simple advice.

This looks like mission impossible in the world we live in nowadays. Most marriages end before they even begin!

Researchers estimate that 41% of all first marriages end in divorce, 60% of second marriages end in divorce and 73% of all third marriages end in divorce. Then how come this couple stayed together for so long to broke the world record?! What’s their secret?!

John and Charlotte Henderson have 211 years combined age, which makes John 106 years old and Charlotte 105 years old, just a year younger than John.

According to Guinness World Records, they recently became the oldest married couple.

Their love story began in 1934 when they met in class while attending the University of Texas. They got married 5 years later and only paid $7 for their hotel room on their honeymoon. Now, that will cost at least few hundred bucks!

The tabloids were eager to ask the couple what’s the secret to a long lasting marriage and breaking the centenarian barrier. The answer is more simple than you think.

“Living in moderation,” John told USA Today. “We never overdo anything. Eat well. Sleep well. Don’t overdrink. Don’t overeat. And exercise regularly.”

John is also the oldest living former UT football player. And for the past 84 years they both have been attending at least one football game a season.

“We had such a good time when John retired. We traveled a lot,” Charlotte said. “We just stay busy all the time, and I’m sure that helps.”

When it comes to the advice to living long, healthy and happy life it all seems to be simple, but oh that simple! It is so hard to sustain…

Now the couple stays active at Longhorn Village, a senior living community for UT staff and alumni.

Another couple, Zelmyra and Herbert Fisher are the ones who broke The Guinness World Record for the longest marriage. They were married since May 13, 1924. Back in 2008, they broke the record for longest marriage at 84 years. They also have a simple advice for long lasting marriage.
